This sweet little goat died 5 minutes after this video was taken, after being attacked by 2 loose dogs just outside the Apple Valley town limits.
San Bernardino County Animal Control has a big problem on its hands, but its a “secret” they don’t want the public to know about. Despite hundreds of reports by residents in unincorporated areas of the High Desert, attacks by loose (usually owned) dogs, killing pets and livestock, and sometimes attacking people–are a regular occurence. Often, the owner of the dog(s) is known, but dogs aren’t impounded.
Why?
Not impounding High Desert county dogs keeps the number of impounded/euthanized dogs on the county appear lower on paper. On the surface, those “numbers” look like one thing, but they aren’t reality, especially for residents who have to put up with this. Not impounding also saves money. This shouldn’t be about numbers or money, it should be about doing their jobs.
San Bernardino County “Animal Care and Control” wants to purchase the Town of Apple Valley Animal Shelter?
They won’t control the hundreds of dogs roaming the High Desert, often in packs, killing anything in sight-for sport, just to make themselves look “ok” on paper. Even worse? They don’t care about these dogs, or the residents at all.
After all, this IS the High Desert, ignored more often than not by San Bernardino County. Our High Desert infrastructure is horrible, and County Animal Control “services” are no exception.
Animal Control Officers aren’t to blame, they can only do what the management tells them to do.
How can we trust the management of the same agency to shelter our local pets?
We can’t.
We must keep local control of the animal shelter that WE bought and paid for!
This is one of many “owned” packs of dogs, actively hunting just outside the Apple Valley town limits.
Together, they are a bloodthirsty wrecking ball, and kill anything that moves, including the poor llama pictured below.
